Navi Mumbai International Airport Set to Open Terminal 1 in October 2025
The long-awaited Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is on the brink of completion, with Terminal 1 scheduled to open in October 2025. This development marks online betgames a significant milestone in the expansion of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s aviation infrastructure. Located in the coastal city of Navi Mumbai, the airport is poised to become the second commercial airport serving the region, complementing the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.
Once operational, NMIA is projected to handle up to 90 million passengers and 3.2 million metric tons of cargo annually at full capacity. The airport’s strategic location is expected to alleviate congestion at the existing Mumbai airport and serve as a catalyst for economic growth in the surrounding areas. Developed as a greenfield project on unused land, NMIA will feature state-of-the-art facilities and sustainable design elements.
Airlines are already preparing for operations at the new terminal. IndiGo plans to launch with 36 domestic flights to 15 cities and expand to 158 daily flights, including 14 international services, by November. Akasa Air will start with 15 daily domestic flights and grow to over 40 daily flights, with 8–10 international routes, by mid-2026. Air India Express aims to commence with 40 daily flights to 15 cities in Phase 1. The Air India group overall plans for 60 daily departures/arrivals by winter 2026.
The opening of Terminal 1 is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity, stimulate economic development, and provide passengers with a modern and efficient travel experience. With the combined capacity of Mumbai’s two airports projected to reach 145 million passengers annually by 2032, NMIA is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of aviation in India.
